Curtis has worked with EPIS in various capacities since 2009. He is currently a partner and the CEO of Kunzler Law Group, PC. He has over a decade of legal experience on transactional, business, commercial and corporate matters. He has been involved in managing a broad spectrum of legal and business affairs, including capitalization, debt, governance, compliance, licensing and other transactional matters. Curtis began his career in law as a corporate associate at Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati, PC in Palo Alto, California. Education: Curtis received his bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in Economics and Business Management, where he was a Hinckley Scholar. He then graduated cum laude from Cornell Law School.
Ben joined EPIS in 2003 with several years of experience in software development, market forecasting and analysis in high-tech industries. He worked in Silicon Valley for over 4 years, first as a software engineer developing applications to monitor wireless communication networks. Later as a senior semiconductor industry analyst for Gartner, Ben was responsible for researching emerging markets, developing revenue forecasts, and maintaining a demanding publication and presentation schedule. At EPIS, Ben has held several positions of increasing responsibility, first in sales and marketing, then as a manager over data research, customer support, and later supervising human resources, IT, and administrative functions. He was appointed an officer in 2008. Most recently, Ben led the global sales team to the highest level of new customers in the company's history. Currently, Ben serves as CEO and is responsible for leading EPIS into new strategic markets and managing the Company’s rapid expansion. Education: Ben earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Utah, and an M.B.A. from Brigham Young University.
James is currently Vice President at The Cynosure Group and is responsible for sourcing, evaluating and executing new investment opportunities. Prior to joining The Cynosure Group, James worked as an independent financial sponsor and raised committed capital to acquire a targeted business. Previously he worked in the Mergers & Acquisitions Group at Oppenheimer & Co. in New York, and interned with the Co-Investment group at Hamilton Lane, a Philadelphia-based private equity firm. Previous experience also includes co-founding Scalar Analytics, a valuation advisory firm James helped grow to profitability. He has worked on transactions across a broad range of sectors. Education: James received a Master of Business Administration degree from Duke University and a B.S. in Finance from Brigham Young University.
Aaron began his career in private equity and financial services as a member of Goldman Sachs' $6.5 billion infrastructure private equity and banking team. As a generalist and early team member in the effort, Aaron worked across multiple industries and was a primary team member in several multibillion dollar transactions. Following his time in New York and prior to joining Five Elms, Aaron assisted with the significant expansion of his family's banking franchise, the restructuring of MGP Ingredients (ticker = MGPI), and partnered with researchers at the MIT Center for Digital Business to develop a groundbreaking business intelligence, optimization and management system. Education: Aaron graduated with a B.A. in Economics from Kansas State University where he was the State of Kansas Rhodes Scholar finalist and currently serves on the Economics Department Board of Advisors. He received a M.A. in Finance from Brandeis University's International Business School.
Herbert E. "Bud" Scruggs
Bud is Managing Director of The Cynosure Group and has over a decade of experience in the senior leadership at Leucadia National Corporation. He has advised some of the wealthiest families in the world, including working in Australia as CEO of The Metal Group, the private holding company of Andrew Forrest, and as President and CEO of Huntsman Financial Corporation. He is a director of Linkem (an Italian internet provider) and Snowbird Ski Resort. He has served as a director of both public and private companies, including American Investment Bank, Barbados Light & Power, Conwed Plastics, Fortescue Metals Group (one of the largest mining companies in Australia), Poseidon Nickel, Deseret Morning News, Empire Insurance, and MK Gold. Previously, Mr. Scruggs served as Chief of Staff to Governor Norman Bangerter and was a co-founder and partner with Governor Michael Leavitt of the Public Affairs Advisory Group. Education: Mr. Scruggs received his JD from BYU's J. Reuben Clark Law School and a degree in Political Science from Brigham Young University.
